Spinal Disorders

Neck, upper and lower back pain can be caused by a variety of disorders, including muscle strain/sprains, joint injury or dysfunction, disc lesions, spinal stenosis, or nerve compression or nerve lesions. Physical therapy is directed initially at reducing the pain by use of various modalities, such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, light, or traction. Emphasis is then placed on restoring function of the joints and muscles involved and may consist of posture exercises, flexibility exercises, joint mobilizations techniques, massage or soft tissue mobilization, strengthening exercises, and instruction in movement strategies to avoid aggravation of symptoms.
